Ethnologisches Museum Dahlem
Lansstraße 8
14195 Berlin

En route to the Humboldt Forum - with the opening of the Humboldt Lab Dahlem, the transition of the Dahlem museums into the Berlin Palace is beginning to take shape. How can the collections of non-European art and cultures be presented in a contemporary and at the same time vivid, lively and insightful manner? And how can they be placed within the context of the other assets on Museum Island and current issues? The Humboldt Lab, established in 2012 at the Ethnological Museum of Berlin pursues precisely these questions. It is the rehearsal stage for the arrangement of the Humboldt Forum. Of a practical bent and in close cooperation with museum curators, scientists and artists, new forms and ways of presentation are tested here and the resulting findings are presented for public discussion.
With Probebühne 1, the first results are being presented now. In several partial exhibitions and "interventions" within the existing permanent exhibition, various aspects and media are tested for contemporary forms of presentation. Agnes Wegner, Director of the Humboldt Lab, will lead through the exhibitions and conversationally explain the underlying considerations for the redesign of the museum at the future Humboldt Forum.

As part of the series "Kultur vor Ort", the Berliner Wirtschaftsgespräche invite the public to visit the exhibition „Kalter Krieg und Wirtschaftswunder – West-Berlin in Farbfotografien von Herbert Maschke“ [The Cold War and the Economic Miracle - West Berlin in Color Photographs by Herbert Maschke] at the Ephraim-Palais. We are particularly pleased that Cornelius Maschke, the son of Herbert Maschke, will be present and talk about the work of his father.
